Camp Activities

What to Expect at an Ozark Sufi Camp

A schedule of classes will be posted for download prior to the start of camp.

What shines forth at these events is the subtle undercurrent of the spirit of community and the willingness of Sufi Ruhaniat mureeds and friends to work together in a good way to continue to host these semi-annual camps for 42 years and work through interpersonal and physical plane challenges to embody and manifest the Sufi ideals of love, harmony and beauty. As we are blessed to have the freedom and wherewithal to host a space for many treasured spiritual practices, the Message in our time continues. What we have learned and the legacy that we are leaving for the next generation are the ways that we continue to share our diverse skills and talents with energy so powerful that it creates an atmosphere very precious and rare that can be palpably felt by all those present at these events. Activities to expect include Dances of Universal Peace, Ziraat practices, Zikr, Service of Universal Peace, Dervish Healing Order Absent Healing Ritual, Kirtan, Japanese Tea Ceremony, Qi Gong, Yoga, Writing, Shabbat, Creative Arts, Sacred Ceremony, Music Performances, Ecstatic Dance, and more.

Kids Camp

The heart of our camp is the children’s programming. Under the guidance of a dedicated staff, children make challah and participate in a Shabbat ceremony on Friday evening, make crafts, play games, celebrate a Children’s Universal Worship,  participate in Dances of Universal Peace, play with amazing giant puppets,  stage a parade, put on a play for the whole community, and more. We are in our third generation of working with children at our camps. The stellar staff consists of experienced, talented artists, teachers and musicians, but it takes a village to provide the container of encouragement, support and safety for our children!

Here’s a sample of activities at a recent kids camp:

We’ll be doing grated chalk painting and crown making, mural painting, and sidewalk painting. We’ll be making jewelry. We’ll be making origami (paper folding) animals and bookmarks. There are lots of outdoor games like volleyball, giant bubbles, a kiddie pool, and plenty of crafts and painting activities. Other activities include nature walks, altar making, bonfire and cook-out, puppet theater, Dances of Universal Peace, healing breaths, children’s Japanese tea ceremony, and bedtime stories like Noor Inayat’s Jataka Tales and Birth Stories of the Prophets.

Murshida Vera’s
Guides’ Prayer

Beloved One,
Almighty God,
Through the chain of all Masters,
Through the Guides of all angels and children,
Place our feet firmly on the path of light,
Illuminate our minds,
Purify our hearts,
And fill us with joy,
That we may be clear channels to our children.

Amen
